December 2025 class action settlements closing

Your Last Chance to Claim Compensation for Data Breaches, False Advertising, and More

Several class action settlements close this month, and it’s worth checking whether any apply to you before their filing windows close.

1. Shields Health Care Data Breach Settlement – $15.35M

  • Deadline: December 3, 2025
  • Payout: Up to $27,500

A 2022 cyberattack on Shields Health Care Group exposed patient information over a two-week span in March, including Social Security numbers and protected health data. The company runs imaging and outpatient surgery centers across New England and was accused of failing to secure the information it collected.

Class members can seek up to $2,500 for ordinary out-of-pocket costs (like credit monitoring and time spent dealing with the breach) and up to $25,000 for more serious losses such as identity theft, fraudulent tax filings, or government benefit misuse. Those without documented losses can elect a $50 cash payment instead.

2. Washington Nationals Age Discrimination Settlement – $3M

  • Deadline: December 9, 2025
  • Payout: Cash or ticket credit

During the 2023–2024 seasons, the Washington Nationals promoted a “Millennial” or “Young Professional” discount that was available only to fans under 40. The lawsuit claimed this age-based pricing violated D.C.’s Human Rights Act by shutting older fans out of the same seats at lower prices.

Fans over 40 who paid full price can choose between a cash payment equal to 62.2% of the price difference or a ticket credit worth double that damage amount for future home games.

3. Road Runner Sports Automatic Renewal Settlement

  • Deadline: December 14, 2025
  • Payout: Discounts, rewards cash, and free memberships

Road Runner Sports faced claims that it renewed California VIP Rewards memberships without clear disclosures or an easy way to cancel, allegedly violating state automatic-renewal laws.

Current members can receive a $10 discount on their next renewal and $15 in rewards cash, with the option to claim extra benefits by filing. Former members may qualify for a free one-year VIP membership plus $15–$25 in rewards cash, depending on when their membership ended. The settlement also requires clearer renewal terms and better cancellation options going forward.

4. TransUnion FCRA Settlement – $2.5M

  • Deadline: December 15, 2025
  • Payout: At least $40 (automatic)

TransUnion was accused of continuing to share consumer data with Portfolio Recovery Associates—a debt collector—even after deletion requests were submitted. The case focused on the company’s “Triggers For Collection” product and alleged violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act.

Eligible consumers don’t need to file a claim. Using internal records, TransUnion and PRA will identify class members and distribute payments automatically. Current estimates put individual payments at $40 or more, depending on the final class size and fees.

5. JOOLA Pickleball Paddle Settlement

  • Deadline: December 15, 2025
  • Payout: $300 refund or $150 gift code

Pickleball players who bought JOOLA Gen 3 paddles featuring pro player signatures say they paid premium prices for equipment advertised as USA Pickleball approved, only to discover the paddles never made the approved list.

Owners of qualifying Gen 3 models can return their paddles for a $300 cash refund with proof of purchase or choose a $150 JOOLA gift code without a receipt. The paddles must be sent back, and those who already returned them under an earlier program are not part of this settlement.

6. Frozen Waffle Recall Settlement – $4M

  • Deadline: December 16, 2025
  • Payout: Refunds (full with proof; up to two boxes without)

TreeHouse Foods recalled a wide range of frozen waffles in late 2024 due to concerns about listeria contamination. The products were sold under numerous brands, including Great Value, Good & Gather, Breakfast Best, Kodiak Cakes, and several regional grocery labels.

Consumers with receipts can claim a full refund for every covered product purchased between October 18, 2024 and September 2, 2025. Households without proof of purchase can still claim the average price for up to two boxes.

7. HelloFresh Auto Renewal Settlement – $7.5M

  • Deadline: December 17, 2025
  • Payout: Refunds of past charges

HelloFresh’s meal kit subscription model came under fire in California for allegedly enrolling customers in automatic renewals without clearly disclosing ongoing charges. Many customers believed they were placing a one-time order and only discovered recurring billing when later deliveries hit their bank or card statements.

Eligible California subscribers can seek refunds for all amounts paid to HelloFresh through August 18, 2025, provided they were charged for a first shipment without understanding it was part of a subscription, canceled after that first box, and never received a refund.

8. Hawaiian Electric Maui Wildfires Settlement – $135M

  • Deadline: December 22, 2025
  • Payout: Varies based on documented wildfire losses

Following the catastrophic August 2023 fires in Lahaina, Kula, and Olinda, Hawaiian Electric agreed to contribute $135 million to a class settlement fund as part of a multi-billion-dollar global resolution. Plaintiffs alleged the utility’s equipment and operations played a role in the fires and that it failed to take adequate precautions during extreme conditions.

The settlement is designed to compensate a wide range of losses: destroyed homes and businesses, lost wages, evacuation and displacement costs, travel cancellations, injuries, and wrongful death. Payouts will depend on documentation, the type of loss, and the total number of claims, and may be distributed over several years.

9. Land Rover Turbocharger Settlement

  • Deadline: December 29, 2025
  • Payout: Up to $15,750 plus extended warranty

Owners of certain Land Rover and Range Rover models alleged that defective brazed scroll turbochargers caused engine damage and expensive repair bills. The settlement covers specific 2013–2016 Range Rover Evoque, 2015–2017 Discovery Sport, and 2013–2015 LR2 vehicles equipped with the affected component.

Eligible owners can claim up to $3,750 for turbocharger replacement and up to $12,000 for related engine repairs—potentially $15,750 in total—based on documentation and mileage. The deal also extends warranty coverage on turbocharger-related engine issues for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles from the vehicle’s original in-service date.

10. Real Estate Commissions Settlement – $42.8M

  • Deadline: December 30, 2025
  • Payout: TBD (based on commission paid)

A group of nine brokerages, including William Raveis, Howard Hanna, EXIT, and others, agreed to a combined $42.7 million settlement in a case challenging long-standing real estate commission practices. Sellers alleged that industry rules forced them to pay both their own agent and the buyer’s agent, keeping fees artificially high and limiting choice.

Homeowners who sold properties listed on an MLS and paid a brokerage commission between 2017 and 2025 (with dates varying by state) may qualify. Payments will be calculated based on the amount of commission paid, so those who sold higher-priced homes or paid higher percentages can expect proportionally larger shares.

11. AARP Facebook Privacy Settlement – $12.5M

  • Deadline: December 31, 2025
  • Payout: Estimated $47–$237

AARP, one of the most prominent organizations serving adults over 50, was sued over allegations that it shared members’ video-viewing data from AARP.org with Facebook via tracking tools embedded on video pages. Plaintiffs claimed this practice violated the federal Video Privacy Protection Act.

Members or registered users who watched videos on AARP.org between September 27, 2020 and September 12, 2025 while logged into Facebook may qualify for payments currently estimated between $47 and $237, depending on how many people file claims. A Facebook profile link is required to verify eligibility.

And if none of these December settlements apply to you, check for others that may apply to you. New cases open regularly, offering opportunities to recover compensation for consumer harm.
