Pickleball players who shelled out money for a premium JOOLA paddle expecting official tournament approval may be entitled to get their money back.
Sport Squad, the company behind JOOLA, has agreed to settle a lawsuit accusing it of misleading customers about whether its popular Gen 3 paddle line met USA Pickleball standards.
The controversy centers on how JOOLA marketed its Gen 3 paddles, which feature signature models from top professional players like Ben Johns, Tyson McGuffin, Anna Bright and Simone Jardim.
Buyers say the company promoted these paddles as being approved for official USA Pickleball play—a big selling point for competitive players who need gear that meets association rules. The problem? The paddles allegedly never received that approval.
For serious players, equipment certification matters. USA Pickleball maintains a list of approved paddles that can be used in sanctioned tournaments. Playing with unapproved equipment can mean disqualification.
Customers who bought Gen 3 paddles expecting to compete with them say they were misled about what they were actually getting.
Sport Squad hasn't admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the case. The company previously offered some customers a chance to return their paddles, but this settlement opens the door for anyone who still has a Gen 3 model sitting in their garage or equipment bag.
If you own one of the affected paddles, you have two options, but either way, you'll need to send it back.
Customers who kept their receipt or can submit proof of purchase from an authorized retailer qualify for a full $300 refund. If you bought your paddle online, your email confirmation or order history should work.
Don't have your receipt? You can still get a $150 JOOLA gift code to spend on the company's website.
To get either benefit, you must return your Gen 3 paddle to JOOLA.
If you already returned your paddle through JOOLA's earlier offer, you're not part of this settlement. But if you own multiple Gen 3 paddles and only returned some of them, you can still file a claim for the ones you kept.
The deadline to submit your claim and return your paddle is Dec. 15, 2025. A final approval hearing is set for Jan. 27, 2026.
