Jaguar Land Rover has agreed to settle a lawsuit accusing the automaker of selling vehicles with faulty turbochargers that can lead to serious engine damage.
Owners of certain Land Rover and Range Rover models may be eligible for repair reimbursements and extended warranty coverage.
At issue is a component known as a brazed scroll turbocharger, which was installed in several vehicle lines produced between 2013 and 2017. According to the lawsuit, this turbocharger is prone to failure and can cause significant damage to the engine when it malfunctions.
Plaintiffs claimed Jaguar Land Rover was aware of the defect but continued selling affected vehicles without warning buyers. When problems arose, owners say they were forced to pay thousands of dollars out of pocket for repairs that should have been covered by the manufacturer.
Vehicles covered by the settlement include the 2013-2016 Range Rover Evoque, 2015-2017 Discovery Sport and 2013-2015 LR2. Not every vehicle from these model years is affected—only those equipped with the specific turbocharger component. A VIN lookup tool on the settlement website can help owners determine whether their vehicle qualifies.
Jaguar Land Rover has not acknowledged any defect or admitted wrongdoing. The company agreed to the settlement to resolve the litigation rather than proceed to trial.
Owners who already paid for turbocharger or engine repairs may be able to recover a significant portion of those costs.
Reimbursement for turbocharger replacement is available up to $3,750, while engine repairs related to turbocharger failure can be reimbursed up to $12,000.
Combined, eligible class members could receive as much as $15,750, though actual amounts will depend on factors like vehicle age and mileage at the time of repair.
Beyond reimbursements for past repairs, the settlement also provides extended warranty coverage going forward. Jaguar Land Rover has agreed to cover turbocharger and engine repairs for up to 10 years or 100,000 miles from the original in-service date.
This extension gives owners who haven't yet experienced problems some protection against future failures, though coverage terms may vary based on vehicle age and mileage.
To file a claim, you'll need documentation showing what repairs were performed and how much you paid. Acceptable proof includes repair invoices, work orders, receipts or credit card and bank statements reflecting the charges.
