Case Overview: A class action lawsuit claims Globe Life failed to protect customer data, leading to a massive data breach that exposed sensitive personal and health information.

Court: U.S. District Court Eastern District of Texas
A newly filed lawsuit alleges that insurance provider Globe Life Inc. failed to properly safeguard sensitive customer data, leading to a massive security breach that compromised personal and financial information.
The October 2024 breach allegedly exposed Social Security numbers, health records, and insurance details, putting hundreds of thousands of policyholders at risk of identity theft and fraud.
Denia Elizarraras filed the proposed class action lawsuit claiming the breach had upended her life. Like many Globe Life customers, she was required to provide personal details—including her Social Security number and health data—when purchasing her insurance policy, the lawsuit explains. Elizarraras, who takes extreme care in protecting her personal information, she says, only learned of the breach through online reports.
The lawsuit states that Globe Life failed to notify its customers in a timely manner, leaving them in the dark about the extent of their exposure. As a result, she has spent countless hours monitoring her financial accounts and remains in fear of identity theft. The emotional toll has been severe, leading to heightened anxiety, disrupted sleep, and persistent stress, the lawsuit states.
According to the lawsuit, Globe Life detected unusual activity in its systems in October 2024 but did not immediately disclose the breach. Initially, the company reported that around 5,000 customers were affected, but a later SEC filing in January 2025 revealed that more than 850,000 individuals had their data compromised.
Among the information exposed were names, addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, and health insurance details. The lawsuit claims Globe Life failed to implement adequate security measures, such as encrypting sensitive data or deleting it when no longer needed. Additionally, the company allegedly violated Texas law by not promptly notifying customers, as required under the Texas Identity Theft Enforcement and Protection Act.
Globe Life’s handling of the situation has raised further concerns; the lawsuit points out that the company has yet to send direct notifications to affected customers or provide details on whether the cyber threat has been contained.
Globe Life is not the only company facing legal action over data security failures. Similar lawsuits have been filed against other healthcare and insurance providers accused of mishandling sensitive data.
VectraRx, a pharmaceutical company, is being sued for allegedly failing to secure its systems against a cyberattack that exposed thousands of patients’ personal and medical records. Likewise, Tri-City Medical Center in California is facing a class action after delaying its notification to patients about a breach that compromised health and insurance details.
Other high-profile cases include lawsuits against Hospital Sisters Health System and Kaiser Permanente, where plaintiffs argue that lax security measures and unauthorized data-sharing practices put millions at risk.
In her lawsuit, Elizarraras wants to represent anyone in the US who purchased life insurance policies from Globe Life and whose data was accessed by an unauthorized party in the breach.
