Thousands of patients who trusted VectraRx with their personal and medical information are now at risk after a cyberattack exposed their sensitive data, a new lawsuit alleges.
The lawsuit, filed by Joseph Beatrice, claims VectraRx failed to properly secure its computer systems, allowing cybercriminals to access and potentially steal private details such as names, Social Security numbers, addresses, and prescription records. The breach, discovered in December 2024, has left victims vulnerable to identity theft and fraud, with the lawsuit arguing that VectraRx’s lax cybersecurity measures put them in harm’s way.
Joseph Beatrice, a Pennsylvania resident, filed the proposed class action lawsuit against VectraRx Mail Pharmacy Services LLC after he was notified that his private data had been compromised. In February 2025, Beatrice received a letter from VectraRx informing him that his information had been accessed during the breach. Like many others, Beatrice had no choice but to provide his personal details in order to receive pharmaceutical services from VectraRx.
Now, his data—and that of thousands of others—could be circulating among cybercriminals, the lawsuit alleges. The lawsuit claims Beatrice has already spent time and money trying to mitigate the potential fallout, such as monitoring his financial accounts and taking steps to protect against identity theft. The lawsuit argues that the exposure of Social Security numbers and medical details leaves victims at an "imminent and certain impending risk" of fraud that could follow them for the rest of their lives.
The breach was first detected on December 13, 2024, when VectraRx noticed suspicious activity on its network, the lawsuit explains. A forensic investigation revealed that hackers had infiltrated the company’s systems, likely gaining access to and copying files containing highly sensitive personal and medical information.
The lawsuit claims VectraRx failed to encrypt the data, making it easier for cybercriminals to steal and misuse. That compromised data, the lawsuit says, is valuable on the dark web, where stolen Social Security numbers and health records are often sold for fraudulent purposes.
The lawsuit argues that VectraRx failed to meet its legal obligations under HIPAA and other industry standards designed to protect consumer information. The company, the plaintiffs claim, did not invest in sufficient cybersecurity protections or employee training to guard against cyber threats.
VectraRx is the latest in a growing list of companies facing legal action over data breaches as cyberattacks become more common. Across industries, organizations that fail to properly secure customer information are increasingly being held accountable in court.
Earlier this month, a former Circle K employee sued the convenience store chain over a May 2024 cyberattack that exposed employee Social Security numbers and driver’s license details. The lawsuit claims Circle K took too long to notify those affected and did not have proper security measures in place.
Other companies, including Bitcoin ATM provider Byte Federal and utility giant Duke Energy Carolinas, have also faced lawsuits in recent months after suffering breaches that left thousands of customers at risk.
In his lawsuit against VectraRx, Beatrice wants to represent anyone in the U.S. whose personal information was compromised in the breach. He is suing for negligence and unjust enrichment, and is seeking damages, restitution, declaratory and injunctive relief including improvements to VectraRx’s data security systems and protocols, future annual audits, VectraRx-funded long-term credit monitoring services, and costs, fees, and interest.
