Torrid has agreed to pay $10 million to settle claims that it advertised misleading discounts to online shoppers. Customers in Oregon, California, and Washington may be eligible for compensation.
The lawsuit accuses Torrid of advertising markdowns that weren’t genuine. Shoppers were shown products with crossed-out “regular” prices and highlighted discounts, but according to plaintiffs, the items were never actually sold at the higher prices. Instead, Torrid allegedly used inflated “original” prices to make its sales seem bigger than they really were.
This type of pricing strategy can violate state consumer protection laws, particularly when companies present fake discounts that pressure consumers into thinking they’re getting a better deal than they are.
Eligible consumers can choose:
$15 Cash Payment, or
$15 Torrid Voucher (usable online or in-store)
Class members can decide which benefit they prefer when they submit a claim. The voucher option will be delivered by email, while cash payments will be sent electronically or by check.
Consumers do not need to provide receipts or order numbers. If your billing address was in California, Oregon, or Washington and you bought something from Torrid.com during the settlement period, you can file a claim.
Online pricing transparency has become a hot topic in retail class actions. Companies often run into legal trouble when they advertise “limited-time offers” or “huge savings” based on prices that may not reflect actual sales history. This settlement holds Torrid accountable for its advertising practices while giving back to customers who were impacted.
