Consumers Allege McDonald's Misled Them About Orange Juice Pricing

A group of consumers is calling out McDonald’s for allegedly misleading customers about orange juice pricing in its breakfast deals. The fast-food giant is accused of tacking on extra fees for the beverage, despite menu boards suggesting it’s included in the meal price.

McDonald's Breakfast Deals Don't Include Orange Juice, Lawsuit Claims

The lawsuit alleges that McDonald’s prominently displays images of orange juice alongside its fixed-price breakfast combos, leading customers to believe the drink is part of the package. However, those opting for orange juice reportedly face an additional charge. Plaintiffs claim this pricing setup creates confusion, leaving customers unaware they’re paying more until after completing their purchase.

One plaintiff stated they would have skipped the drink or chosen something else had the additional fee been disclosed upfront. The group claims this lack of transparency is unfair to customers, who rely on the advertised price when making their decisions.

Customers Speak Out About Undisclosed Extra Fees

According to the complaint, McDonald’s failed to inform customers about the surcharge in a clear and upfront manner. At least one plaintiff shared that their negative experience with this pricing issue led them to stop purchasing breakfast items from McDonald’s entirely. The lawsuit argues the lack of clear communication amounts to deceptive marketing practices.

The lawsuit also accuses McDonald’s of negligent misrepresentation and fraudulent practices, arguing that the company knowingly withheld pricing details that could have influenced customer choices.

This isn’t the only legal case McDonald’s is facing. In October, other lawsuits were filed against the company after customers claimed they became ill with E. coli from its food

Other Companies Face Lawsuits Over Pricing Practices

Along with the fast food giant, Starbucks faced backlash earlier this year when customers accused the company of overcharging for non-dairy milk options, arguing that these fees unfairly impacted those with dietary restrictions. Dunkin’ Donuts also faced a lawsuit for reportedly hiding dine-in fees that only appeared on receipts after payment.

In the McDonald’s orange juice class action lawsuit, the plaintiffs aim to represent a nationwide class of customers who were charged extra for orange juice without prior notice. In addition, the plaintiffs seek to include residents of California, Nevada, and Florida in state-specific claims, citing consumer protection laws unique to those areas. They are asking for refunds for affected customers and an order to stop the pricing practice in question.
