CSX Curtis Bay Explosion Settlement: $1.75M

This settlement applies to individuals who meet one of the following criteria on December 30, 2021:

• Owned residential property within the defined Curtis Bay class area.
• Resided in a residential property within the defined Curtis Bay class area.

The Curtis Bay class area is defined as:

• Beginning at the intersection of West Bay Avenue and East Patapsco Avenue.
• Extending southeast to the intersection of East Patapsco Avenue and Curtis Avenue.
• Continuing south along Curtis Avenue until its intersection with railroad tracks (located at approximately 39.216431, -71.586-087).
• Southwest to the intersection of Branch Avenue and Arundel Boulevard.
• Northwest to the intersection of West Bay Avenue and Church Street.
• Then north along West Bay Avenue to the intersection of West Bay Avenue and East Patapsco Avenue.

Documentation to prove residence during the relevant timeframe may be required to file a claim. Examples include utility bills, mortgage documents, or other similar documents.

A class action lawsuit has been settled for $1.75 million against CSX Transportation, a railroad supplier. The lawsuit alleged that an explosion at CSX's Baltimore facility in December 2021 resulted from the company's negligence and caused surrounding homes to be covered in coal dust.

CSX Transportation denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to the settlement to avoid the costs of litigation. The settlement aims to compensate residents who may have been impacted by the coal dust following the explosion.
