Apple App Store, iTunes Gift Card Scam Settlement: $35M

You may be included in this Settlement as a “Class Member” and entitled to receive a payment called the “Class Payment” if you purchased an App Store & iTunes Gift Card between January 2015 and July 2020 anywhere in the United States, you provided the redemption code for this gift card to someone unknown to you who sought the code under false pretenses, and you did not receive a full refund or other form of compensation for your complete losses from Defendants or any third party.

A class action lawsuit alleged that Apple enabled and profited from scams where consumers were tricked into purchasing App Store and iTunes gift cards and providing the redemption codes to fraudsters. The lawsuit claimed that Apple failed to take adequate measures to prevent these scams and even benefited financially from them.

Apple denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to a $35 million settlement to resolve the claims. The settlement provides compensation to eligible consumers who fell victim to these scams.

Class Members shall be compensated in an amount equal to the face value at the time of purchase of the App Store & iTunes Gift Card(s) which are the subject of the claim, less any amounts the Class Member has already been refunded, cashed out, or received in compensation from any source in connection with their purchase of such App Store & iTunes Gift Card(s).
