PetSafe and its parent company, Radio Systems Corporation, have agreed to a $1.9 million settlement following allegations that their electronic collars and containment products were marketed as safe despite reports suggesting potential risks.
According to the lawsuit, consumers were led to believe these devices were harmless training tools supported by scientific testing, but numerous accounts indicated that pets could experience physical discomfort or behavioral issues.
The plaintiff argued that PetSafe’s marketing omitted important safety information and that buyers relied on these representations when choosing the products. The case also pointed to documented complaints and veterinary insights that contradicted the company’s messaging.
PetSafe maintains it did nothing wrong but opted to resolve the matter through settlement.
Under the agreement, eligible California consumers may qualify for compensation based on the type of product purchased.
Payments range from $30 for bark collars to $140 for wireless fence systems, with amounts varying depending on the number of claims submitted.
Consumers can file for up to three products without providing proof of purchase, making the process accessible for those who no longer have receipts.
