A consumer class action multi-district litigation involving the Fisher-Price Rock ‘n Play Sleeper (RNPS) has been settled for $19 million. The lawsuit claims that Fisher-Price misled consumers by marketing the RNPS as a safe infant sleeper, even though infant fatalities occurred after babies rolled from their back to their stomach or side while unrestrained. The product was recalled in 2019 after about 4.7 million units were sold.
The plaintiffs allege that the RNPS exposed infants to unsafe conditions, regardless of how it was used. Fisher-Price denies these allegations and any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to avoid further litigation. This settlement does not cover personal injury, wrongful death, or property damage claims.
Under the terms of the settlement, eligible class members can receive cash payments ranging from $10 to a full refund of the purchase price, depending on their current ownership and whether they participated in the recall. Those who no longer own the product may still receive compensation if they returned the product during the recall or have proof of purchase.
