DoorDash has agreed to pay $11.25 million to resolve allegations that it misled Illinois consumers and Dashers about how customer tips were distributed.
The Illinois Attorney General’s lawsuit claimed that between July 2017 and September 2019, DoorDash used a Pay Guarantee Model that misrepresented how tips affected driver earnings. Plaintiffs allege:
- DoorDash led customers to believe that tips increased Dasher pay above guaranteed earnings.
- Instead, DoorDash allegedly used customer tips to meet the guaranteed base pay amount—rather than adding tips on top of base pay.
- As a result, Dashers did not receive the full benefit of their customer tips as intended.
DoorDash denies any wrongdoing and maintains that all tips were paid to Dashers, but has agreed to settle the case to avoid further litigation.
Settlement Benefits
- Minimum Payment: Every eligible Dasher who submits a valid claim will receive at least $2.00.
- Proportional Payment: The remaining settlement funds will be distributed based on the amount of tips affected for each Dasher.
- Total Affected Dashers: 79,262 Dashers have been identified as eligible for compensation.
