Chestnut Hill Hospital and Tower Health have reached a $400,000 settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit alleging that their online job application unlawfully asked applicants about their criminal history. This practice allegedly violated the Philadelphia Fair Criminal Records Screening Standards Ordinance (the "Philadelphia Ban the Box Law").
The lawsuit claimed that asking about criminal history on the initial job application unfairly discriminated against qualified applicants. Chestnut Hill Hospital and Tower Health deny any wrongdoing but have agreed to settle to avoid further litigation.
