Amazon has agreed to pay $3 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging violations of California labor laws. The lawsuit claimed Amazon failed to properly calculate overtime wages for warehouse workers in California who received signing bonuses during their employment.
Specifically, the lawsuit contends that between July 22, 2017, and November 7, 2023, Amazon did not include signing bonuses in the regular rate of pay when calculating overtime wages for certain warehouse workers. This resulted in underpayment of overtime wages for those employees. Additionally, the lawsuit claimed Amazon violated California Labor Code by failing to provide accurate and itemized wage statements reflecting all required information.
While Amazon denies any wrongdoing, they agreed to the settlement to resolve the lawsuit. Here's what eligible class members can expect:
- Cash Payment: Class members can receive a cash payment based on the alleged difference between the overtime pay they received and the amount they should have received with the signing bonus included in their regular rate of pay.
- Estimated Average Payout: While individual amounts will vary, each class member is expected to receive around $565.43.
