All individuals in the United States who requested or obtained video content on Viki.com between Jan. 12, 2016, and July 30, 2024, while they had both a Facebook account and a Viki account.

Viki, an international streaming platform, has agreed to an $8 million class action settlement to resolve allegations that it violated the federal Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA). The lawsuit accused Viki of sharing personally identifiable viewing information with Facebook via the Meta Pixel web tracking tool without obtaining user consent.

The VPPA prohibits video service providers from disclosing user identities along with their video-viewing habits unless consent is provided. The plaintiffs claim Viki’s integration of Meta Pixel enabled Facebook to track who watched what—without users being made aware.

Viki has not admitted wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to avoid further litigation and bring the matter to a close.

What Class Members Can Receive

Under the settlement, eligible users may receive:

• Cash Payment: An estimated $30–$150 per claimant, depending on the number of valid claims received. Actual payments may vary.

• Policy Changes: Viki has agreed to discontinue using Meta Pixel on video content pages unless they obtain appropriate user consent or the VPPA is amended.
