Tyler Technologies has agreed to resolve a class action lawsuit stemming from a data breach that allegedly exposed sensitive personal information on March 23, 2024. The plaintiffs claim the breach occurred due to inadequate cybersecurity protocols, and that Tyler Technologies failed to implement the safeguards necessary to protect the information in its care.
The breach allegedly compromised data belonging to individuals whose personal details were stored by the company as part of its work with public institutions, including courts, law enforcement, and school systems. Notifications of the breach were sent to affected individuals following the incident.
Tyler Technologies is a government-focused software company that provides services to public sector entities across the U.S. While the company has not admitted fault, it agreed to settle the claims to resolve the matter without further litigation.
Eligible class members can receive reimbursement of up to $3,500 for data breach-related losses. These include fraudulent charges, identity theft damages, and costs related to addressing the breach, as well as up to four hours of lost time, compensated at $25 per hour. Class members also have the option to accept a flat $75 payment instead of submitting lost time documentation.
In addition to financial compensation, the settlement provides three years of identity protection services. These services include one-bureau credit monitoring, $1 million in identity theft insurance, dark web scanning, and access to fraud recovery specialists.
Payments for documented losses are only available for expenses incurred between March 23, 2024, and May 29, 2025, and must be supported with appropriate documentation.
