Truist Bank Robocall Settlement: $4.1M

Subscribers or regular users of any of 5,998 U.S. cell phone numbers that received a prerecorded call from Truist Bank between Feb. 10, 2019, and Aug. 31, 2022, related to an account they had no connection with.

None required. Eligibility is based on phone numbers identified in Truist’s records.

Truist Bank has agreed to pay $4.1 million to settle claims that it violated federal robocall laws by contacting consumers without permission. The class action lawsuit accused the bank of using prerecorded voice messages to call individuals about unrelated accounts, in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

The lawsuit targeted Truist’s alleged failure to ensure that recipients of these messages had provided valid consent. The TCPA restricts the use of automated calling technologies and imposes penalties for unsolicited calls or texts, especially to cellphones.

While Truist denies wrongdoing, it opted to settle to avoid further litigation.

What Class Members Can Receive

Each class member will receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Based on current estimates, the payout is expected to be around $440 per person, though final amounts may vary depending on how many people participate.

No claim form is required. Eligible recipients will be paid automatically if they don’t exclude themselves from the settlement.
