TaxSlayer has agreed to pay $840,000 to resolve allegations that it violated California privacy laws by using digital tracking tools on its website that allegedly disclosed customer information without consent. The lawsuit claims TaxSlayer’s website shared sensitive user data with third parties through technologies embedded in its online tax preparation platform.

According to plaintiffs, TaxSlayer users unknowingly had their information transmitted to outside entities when accessing TaxSlayer’s services from California. The complaint alleges this practice violated consumer privacy rights protected under California law.

TaxSlayer denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the $840,000 settlement to resolve the claims and avoid further litigation.

What Settlement Class Members Can Receive

Class members who submit a valid claim by September 9, 2025, will receive a cash payment. The exact payout per person will depend on the total number of claims filed. No payment estimates are currently available.
