Systems East has agreed to a class action settlement following claims that a data breach in 2023 compromised sensitive information for users of its payment processing services. The settlement addresses allegations that Systems East did not have adequate security in place to protect user data from unauthorized access. While Systems East denies the claims, it has agreed to the settlement terms.
Under the settlement, eligible class members have two options:
- Pro Rata Payment: Class members may receive a pro rata cash payment, estimated at $75, though the actual amount could vary based on the number of valid claims submitted and remaining settlement funds after reimbursements.
- Reimbursement of Documented Losses: For those who experienced specific financial losses, the settlement offers up to $8,000 in compensation. This reimbursement can cover various expenses directly connected to the breach, including fraud-related damages, credit monitoring fees, and costs for securing credit reports.
In addition to monetary payments, Systems East has committed to enhancing its cybersecurity protocols as part of this settlement agreement.
