Self Financial has agreed to a $500,000 settlement to resolve claims that it contacted Florida consumers outside of legal calling hours, violating the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act (FCCPA). The settlement covers Florida residents who received communications from Self Financial regarding a consumer account between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. (local Florida time) since October 4, 2021.
The class action lawsuit alleges that Self Financial, a credit-building platform, violated state laws by contacting consumers at inappropriate hours. The Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act restricts communications to the hours between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m. Self Financial denies any wrongdoing but agreed to settle to resolve the claims.
Under the settlement terms, class members will receive an equal share of the net settlement fund, with the final amount depending on the number of valid claims filed and deductions for fees. Each class member's maximum payout will be $50.
Class members must submit a valid claim form by October 29, 2024, to receive a share of the settlement fund. No proof of purchase is required.
