A class action lawsuit was filed against Confi-Chek, claiming it used consumer information without consent to advertise its PeopleFinders website, allegedly violating the Illinois Right of Publicity Act. PeopleFinders, operated by Confi-Chek, allows users to search for people and perform reverse phone number lookups.
Confi-Chek has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to pay more than $4.89 million to resolve the lawsuit.
Under the terms of the settlement, eligible class members will receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. Each claimant is estimated to receive between $89 and $178, although the actual amount may vary based on the number of claims filed.
