Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe, a global law firm, has agreed to an $8 million settlement to resolve claims related to a 2023 data breach that allegedly compromised client information. The settlement benefits individuals who received a data breach notification from the law firm between March 2023 and December 2023.
The class action lawsuit alleges that hackers accessed client information through unauthorized file transfers due to Orrick’s alleged negligence. Plaintiffs claim that the firm failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures to protect sensitive data. Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the claims to avoid further litigation.
Under the settlement terms, eligible class members can receive up to $10,000, depending on their claimed losses, including ordinary and extraordinary expenses, lost time, and CCPA compensation.
Class members must submit a valid claim form by October 28, 2024.
