A class action lawsuit was filed against Oracle, alleging that the company illegally tracked personal information such as web activity, in-store purchases, geolocation, and more without consumer consent. Oracle allegedly sold this information to third parties for advertising purposes.
Oracle, a cloud applications provider partnering with companies like Uber, AMC, and MGM Resorts, has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $115 million settlement to resolve the lawsuit.
Under the terms of the settlement, eligible class members will receive an equal share of the net settlement fund. The exact payment amount will vary depending on the number of claims filed, fees, and other factors. No specific payment estimates are currently available.
As part of the settlement, Oracle also agreed to refrain from capturing user-generated information from referrer websites or forms on its own websites and will implement an audit program to review its privacy obligations.
