A data breach affecting customers of Nevada Restaurant Services (NRS), a company operating gambling parlors, hotels, and resorts in Nevada, including the Dotty’s chain, led to a $6.49 million settlement. The breach, discovered in January 2021, compromised sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers, financial account information, and health insurance details.
A class action lawsuit was filed alleging that NRS failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures to protect customer data. NRS denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to resolve the lawsuit.
The settlement offers two types of compensation:
- Reimbursement for Documented Losses: Class members can claim up to $10,350 for expenses directly related to the data breach, including bank fees, communication charges, travel costs, lost time, and extraordinary losses due to fraud or identity theft.
- Alternate Cash Payment: If you do not have documented losses, you can choose to receive an alternate cash payment of $50. Additionally, all California residents included in the class are eligible for an additional cash payment equal to half the amount of the alternate cash payment.
