First Choice Dental Data Breach Settlement: $1.225M

All U.S. residents whose personal information was involved in the First Choice Dental data breach discovered in October 2023.

To receive compensation for documented losses, claimants must submit receipts, account statements, invoices, or other documentation verifying their expenses. No proof is required for the $50 flat payment or credit monitoring.

First Choice Dental has agreed to a $1.225 million settlement to resolve a class action lawsuit stemming from a 2023 data breach that exposed sensitive consumer information.

The breach, discovered in October 2023, allegedly compromised data including names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, financial account details, and health information. Plaintiffs argued that First Choice Dental failed to properly safeguard this data, leading to potential identity theft and fraud risks.

Though the dental provider, which operates in Wisconsin, has denied any liability, it has agreed to settle the case to avoid further litigation.

Under the Terms of the Settlement

Class members can claim up to $6,000 in reimbursement for documented economic losses related to the breach. Eligible costs may include fraudulent charges, identity theft recovery, credit-related expenses, or professional fees.

Individuals who did not experience financial harm can still receive a $50 cash payment.

All claimants, regardless of economic loss, are also eligible for three years of free credit monitoring, which includes $1 million in identity theft protection insurance.
