CorrectCare Data Breach Settlement: $6.49M

Individuals identified by CorrectCare as potentially impacted by the July 2022 data breach are eligible for settlement benefits.

To claim reimbursement for documented losses, you will need to provide supporting documentation such as account statements, invoices, receipts, bills, travel logs, tax documents, or other evidence of your expenses.

A data breach affecting consumers whose information was processed by CorrectCare Integrated Health, a medical billing and claims administration company specializing in correctional facility healthcare, has led to a $6.49 million settlement.

The data breach, discovered in July 2022 and publicly announced in November 2022, exposed sensitive consumer information including full names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, CDCR numbers, and limited health information. A class action lawsuit was filed alleging that CorrectCare failed to adequately protect consumer data.

CorrectCare denies any wrongdoing but has agreed to the $6.49 million settlement to resolve the lawsuit and compensate affected consumers.

The settlement offers two types of compensation:

• Reimbursement for Documented Losses: Class members can claim up to $10,000 for expenses directly related to the data breach, including but not limited to bank fees, communication charges, travel expenses, professional fees, credit expenses, and damages resulting from fraud that occurred between the data breach date and August 27, 2024.
  
  
• Alternate Cash Payment: If you do not have documented losses, you can choose to receive an alternate cash payment. The amount will depend on the total number of claims filed. Additionally, all California residents included in the class are eligible for an additional cash payment equal to half the amount of the alternate cash payment.
