In a data breach class action lawsuit filed by Randall Huffman, a former employee, CommScope Inc. and CommScope Holding Company (collectively, "CommScope") have agreed to a settlement of $440,000. The lawsuit alleges that a cyberattack in March 2023 compromised the personal information of thousands of current and former CommScope employees.
The breach reportedly exposed sensitive data such as Social Security numbers, addresses, and financial details. The lawsuit contends that CommScope became aware of suspicious activity on its network only "recently," allowing unauthorized access for an undetermined period. Further, it took CommScope until April 2023 to complete an internal investigation and identify affected individuals.
Notification to class members regarding the breach began in May 2023 and is reportedly still ongoing. The lawsuit claims the notification lacked clarity, leaving individuals uncertain about the duration of the breach and its potential consequences.
The settlement applies to U.S. residents who received a data breach notification from CommScope concerning the March 2023 incident. It provides class members with the following options:
Alternatively, class members may elect to receive a flat-rate payment of approximately $100 in lieu of the aforementioned benefits.
The lawsuit asserts that CommScope failed to implement adequate safeguards to protect employee data, leading to the compromise of sensitive information. While CommScope has not admitted any wrongdoing, they have agreed to the settlement to resolve the class action lawsuit.
