Citizens Disability LLC has agreed to pay $320,000 to resolve a class action lawsuit that accused the company of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). The lawsuit focused on prerecorded telemarketing calls that were allegedly made without obtaining prior express written consent, a key requirement under the federal telemarketing law.
According to the plaintiffs, Citizens Disability used Pipes.ai, a calling platform, to place automated calls to consumers about disability benefits services. These calls allegedly featured prerecorded voice messages and were made to individuals whose contact information came exclusively from GrantsAssistanceForYou.com, a third-party lead generator.
The TCPA prohibits businesses from calling consumers using artificial or prerecorded voices unless the recipient has given clear written consent. The lawsuit argues that Citizens Disability failed to follow these rules, regardless of any business relationship with the recipient.
Citizens Disability is a firm that offers advocacy services for people seeking Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). The company has not admitted any wrongdoing but chose to settle to resolve the matter without further litigation.
Class members can receive a cash payment, which will be distributed pro rata—meaning the total available amount will be divided equally among all approved claims. The exact payment each claimant receives will depend on how many valid claims are submitted. At this time, no estimates are available.
The settlement also includes attorney fees, administrative costs, and any other fees approved by the court, which will be deducted before payments are calculated. There are no benefits like credit monitoring or non-monetary services included in this settlement—it is strictly financial compensation for the alleged TCPA violations.
