CGM Data Breach Settlement: $1.5M

Consumers who received a data breach notification from CGM informing them their information may have been compromised in the December 2022 data breach are eligible for benefits from the settlement.

If you seek reimbursement for documented data breach-related expenses, you will need to submit receipts, invoices, account statements, credit reports, insurance claims, or other documentation proving your losses.

A class action lawsuit against CGM, a software as a service solutions company for wireless and broadband companies, has been settled for $1.5 million. The lawsuit alleged that CGM failed to take proper cybersecurity measures, leading to a data breach in December 2022. Hackers were able to access sensitive consumer data during the breach.

While CGM denies any wrongdoing, they have agreed to the settlement to avoid the costs of litigation. The settlement aims to compensate consumers whose information may have been compromised in the data breach.

Under the terms of the CGM data breach class action settlement, eligible class members, depending on their experience with the data breach, can receive:

• Credit Monitoring and Identity Theft Protection: All class members are entitled to three years of credit monitoring and identity theft protection services. This includes monitoring of all three major credit bureaus and $1 million in identity theft insurance.
  
  
• Cash Payments:
  • Documented Losses: If you can document out-of-pocket expenses due to the data breach, you can receive reimbursement of up to $400 for ordinary losses, $20 per hour for up to four hours of lost time resolving the issue, and up to $4,000 for extraordinary losses.
    
    
  • Without Documented Losses: If you have no documented losses, you may be eligible for an alternate cash payment estimated to be around $20. However, the final amount may be higher or lower depending on the number of claims filed.
