BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy Services has agreed to a settlement in a class action lawsuit stemming from a 2021 data breach, during which the personal information of numerous individuals was compromised.
The settlement benefits individuals affected by the BioPlus data breach, which occurred between October 25, 2021, and November 11, 2021.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit allege that BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy Services failed to implement adequate cybersecurity measures to prevent the 2021 data breach. It is claimed that the breach allowed hackers to access sensitive patient data, including Social Security numbers.
BioPlus is a specialty pharmacy company that assists patients in managing chronic medical conditions and overcoming treatment barriers.
While BioPlus denies any wrongdoing, it has agreed to an undisclosed settlement amount to resolve the class action lawsuit related to the data breach.
Under the terms of the settlement, class members may receive monetary benefits based on whether their Social Security numbers were compromised and if they incurred expenses related to the data breach.
Those whose Social Security numbers were compromised may be eligible for a $50 flat rate cash payment and up to $7,500 in reimbursement for data breach-related expenses, including compensation for lost time.
Class members whose Social Security numbers were not compromised may still be eligible for reimbursement of data breach-related expenses, including compensation for lost time, up to a maximum of $750.
The proposed settlement is part of the class action lawsuit Gilbert et al. v. BioPlus Specialty Pharmacy Services, LLC, filed in the United States District Court for the Middle District of Florida. BioPlus denies the allegations made by the plaintiffs and refutes any wrongdoing.
