DirectToU and Alliance Entertainment have agreed to a $1.57 million class action settlement to resolve claims that they violated the Video Privacy Protection Act (VPPA) by disclosing consumer information without consent.
The lawsuit alleges the companies used Facebook Pixel tracking technology on their websites, which allowed them to share users’ video and video game purchase information with Facebook. Consumers claim this practice occurred without their knowledge or permission, in direct violation of federal privacy protections under the VPPA.
DirectToU and Alliance Entertainment deny any wrongdoing but agreed to settle the case to avoid continued litigation.
Consumers included in the settlement are those who either made a purchase or signed up for product alerts and whose data was disclosed during the class period. California residents benefit from an extended class period beginning in 2020.
Class members are eligible to receive a cash payment, with estimates ranging between $60 and $145 depending on the number of approved claims and final deductions from the settlement fund.
To participate, claim forms must be submitted by January 20, 2026. The deadline to object or opt out is also January 20, 2026, and the final approval hearing is scheduled for January 28, 2026.
