Advance Auto Parts has agreed to settle a class action lawsuit concerning a May 2024 data breach that exposed sensitive information belonging to more than 2.3 million job applicants and employees. According to the lawsuit, Advance Auto Parts failed to implement reasonable security measures to protect private data, resulting in a significant breach.
The compromised information allegedly includes personal identifiers such as names, addresses, Social Security numbers, and financial details. Affected individuals were notified by Advance Auto Parts shortly after the breach was discovered.
Advance Auto Parts has not admitted to any wrongdoing but agreed to resolve the lawsuit through a settlement to avoid further litigation.
Eligible individuals may qualify for the following benefits:
Documented Loss Reimbursement: Up to $5,000 for out-of-pocket expenses related to the data breach. Covered losses include fraud-related costs, credit monitoring fees, professional services, or other expenses stemming from the breach.
California Residents: Class members residing in California may claim an additional $100 under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). This amount may be adjusted based on the number of claims.
Credit Monitoring Option: All class members can receive two years of free credit and identity monitoring through Kroll Essential Monitoring. This includes real-time credit monitoring, dark web scanning, $1 million in identity theft insurance, and dedicated fraud support.
Alternative Cash Payment: Instead of accepting credit monitoring services, class members may choose an alternative cash payment of around $100, subject to pro rata adjustments depending on the total claims filed.
To receive benefits, class members must submit a valid claim form by Oct. 8, 2025.
The settlement provides monetary relief and monitoring services to help mitigate the risks of identity theft following the data breach. It also reflects a broader trend of holding companies accountable for cybersecurity failures.
