About This Settlement

In 2021, consumers filed a class action lawsuit against Brighthouse Life Insurance Co., alleging the company failed to reduce cost of insurance (COI) rates for its universal life insurance policies despite improved mortality expectations and reduced expenses. What You May Receive

Eligible class members may receive a cash payment based on the face value of their policy. If your policy is valued at $250,000 or less, you may receive a proportional share of the net settlement fund. If your policy is valued at more than $250,000, you may be eligible to receive a larger proportional share of the net settlement fund. Exact payment amounts will vary depending on the total number of participating class members and the remaining settlement fund after court-approved deductions for attorneys' fees, costs, and administrative expenses. No specific per-claimant payout amount is guaranteed.

How to File a Claim

1. No claim form is required. If you are an eligible class member and you do not exclude yourself from the settlement, you will automatically receive a settlement payment — there is nothing you need to submit.
2. Verify your eligibility. Visit the official settlement website at BrighthouseInsuranceCase.com to confirm that your policy qualifies and to review the full terms of the settlement.
3. Do not exclude yourself if you wish to receive a payment. The deadline to request exclusion from the settlement is December 11, 2026. If you exclude yourself, you will not receive a payment but will retain the right to pursue your own legal action.

5. Wait for final approval. The final approval hearing is scheduled for January 26, 2027. Payments will be distributed after the court grants final approval and any appeals are resolved.
