Quaker Oats has agreed to a $6.75 million class action settlement to resolve claims it falsely advertised a wide range of food products as safe despite manufacturing them at a facility linked to salmonella contamination.
On December 15, 2023, and again on January 11, 2024, Quaker Oats issued recalls of dozens of products, including granola bars, cereals, snack mixes, and more. The recalls were prompted by potential salmonella contamination at a manufacturing plant. The affected products were distributed nationwide.
Plaintiffs in the class action lawsuit argue that Quaker Oats marketed these items as safe for consumption, even though the company allegedly failed to prevent contamination or disclose known risks. They claim this marketing violated state consumer protection laws and led customers to unknowingly purchase products made under unsafe conditions.
Quaker Oats denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to resolve the legal dispute and avoid further litigation
Class members can receive reimbursement for recalled products they purchased:
With Proof of Purchase: A full refund of the purchase price for each eligible product.
Without Proof of Purchase: A refund equal to the average retail price of up to two covered products, plus 10% sales tax.
Consumers who already received a refund or reimbursement from Quaker Oats for recalled products will have that amount subtracted from their settlement payout.
This settlement ensures compensation for impacted consumers and reinforces the importance of transparency and safety in food labeling and manufacturing practices.
