WinCo has agreed to pay $3.6 million to settle a class action lawsuit alleging they failed to clearly inform Portland customers about the final price of non-grocery items. The lawsuit claimed WinCo did not adequately disclose a 1% surcharge added to cover the city's Clean Energy Fund.
Shoppers who purchased non-grocery items at a WinCo store in Portland between June 1, 2019 and May 8, 2022 may be eligible for compensation. This includes items like cleaning supplies, paper products, and even beer and wine. The key factor is that they were charged a surcharge on these non-grocery purchases.
WinCo maintains they disclosed the surcharge on receipts, but have agreed to the settlement regardless. Those who qualify can file a claim for up to $200 from a $3.365 million settlement fund. However, the final amount received may be adjusted depending on the number of claims submitted.
The deadline to file a claim is July 9, 2024.
