Wells Fargo has agreed to a $33 million class action lawsuit settlement over claims it helped deceptive companies enroll consumers in recurring billing without their knowledge.
The lawsuit accuses Wells Fargo of facilitating unauthorized subscriptions by opening accounts and processing payments for the Tarr, Triangle, and Apex entities. These companies allegedly used “free” trial offers for items like dietary supplements, e-cigarettes and personal care products to enroll consumers in ongoing monthly charges.
While the bank has denied any wrongdoing, it agreed to the settlement to resolve the allegations and compensate affected consumers.
Under the settlement terms, individuals who were charged for recurring subscriptions by these entities may be eligible for a cash payment. Class members with supporting documentation can receive a proportional share of the settlement fund based on their losses. Those without documentation may receive a flat payment of up to $20. All payments may be adjusted on a pro rata basis depending on the number of claims submitted.
Consumers who previously received compensation through the FTC's refund programs related to these same entities are automatically eligible for settlement benefits and do not need to submit a claim form.
The deadline to submit a claim form is March 4, 2026. The deadline to request exclusion or object to the settlement is March 5, 2026, and the final approval hearing is scheduled for March 26, 2026.
