Regal Cinemas Ticket Fees Settlement: $2.5M

Individuals who used the guest checkout process on Regal’s website to purchase electronic tickets for film screenings at any Regal Cinemas location in New York during the eligible period.

No additional proof is required. Eligible purchases are tracked in Regal’s electronic ticketing system.

Regal Cinemas has agreed to a $2.5 million class action settlement to resolve claims that it charged undisclosed online ticket fees in violation of New York law. According to the lawsuit, Regal failed to properly disclose electronic booking fees when customers used the guest checkout option to purchase movie tickets online.

Plaintiffs allege that Regal’s pricing system did not show the total cost—including the service or “convenience” fee—until after the ticket selection process, depriving consumers of key information needed to make informed purchasing decisions.

Although Regal denies any wrongdoing, it agreed to settle the claims to avoid ongoing litigation.

Under the Terms of the Settlement

Eligible consumers may receive a proportional cash payment based on the amount they paid in electronic booking fees during the class period. The total amount each class member receives will depend on the number of claims submitted and the total fees paid by all claimants.

As part of the settlement, Regal also agreed to improve transparency for online ticket sales in New York by ensuring that all costs, including booking fees, are clearly shown before customers finalize their ticket selection.

This settlement compensates moviegoers who were allegedly misled about ticket prices while purchasing through Regal’s guest checkout system.
