A class action lawsuit alleged that Nationstar Mortgage charged fees on Florida borrowers' mortgage accounts that were not outlined in their servicing contracts, allegedly violating the Florida Consumer Collection Practices Act, the Florida Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act, and breaching mortgage contracts with borrowers. These fees allegedly included charges for process service on unknown spouses and tenants, property maintenance, property inspections, and attorneys' fees from prior unsuccessful foreclosure actions. Nationstar has not admitted any wrongdoing but agreed to a $1.5 million settlement to resolve these allegations. This page is for informational purposes only and does not constitute legal advice.
