Olaplex has agreed to settle a false advertising class action lawsuit that accused the company of misleading consumers about where its products were made.
The lawsuit focuses on Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3 and other products that were marketed with “Made in USA” labels. According to the complaint, these products actually contained ingredients sourced from outside the United States. Plaintiffs claimed this labeling was false and misleading, violating California’s Made in USA Statute as well as the state’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act, Unfair Competition Law, and False Advertising Law.
Olaplex is a well-known hair care brand that sells products for both professional salons and at-home use. The brand is especially popular for its treatments designed to repair and strengthen damaged hair.
Although Olaplex denies any wrongdoing, it has agreed to resolve the lawsuit to avoid the uncertainty and cost of further litigation.
Class members are eligible to receive a $5 voucher that can be used for future purchases on Olaplex’s website.
The voucher can be combined with other discounts and promotions offered directly through Olaplex’s website, but it cannot be combined with other promotional codes.
Each class member can only receive one voucher, no matter how many Olaplex products they purchased during the class period.
Vouchers will expire 12 months after they are issued.
This settlement offers eligible consumers a small reimbursement in the form of store credit, while Olaplex has also agreed to modify its product labeling practices to comply with California’s laws around “Made in USA” claims.
