Kipling has agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims that it misled California outlet store shoppers with false discount pricing. The lawsuit alleges Kipling promoted artificial discounts by referencing original prices that were never actually charged, a practice that violates California’s strict laws on retail pricing transparency.
According to the complaint, Kipling displayed products with tags or signage suggesting significant markdowns from inflated "original" or "reference" prices. In reality, plaintiffs say the items were never sold at the advertised original price, and the markdowns were deceptive.
Kipling, known for its line of backpacks, bags, and accessories, operates outlet locations throughout the U.S. but was specifically accused of violating California pricing laws. While the company denies any wrongdoing, it agreed to a settlement to resolve the allegations and avoid further litigation.
Eligible shoppers can receive a $10 voucher redeemable at Kipling’s California outlet stores.
Shoppers who received an email notice about the settlement will automatically get the voucher, unless they choose to exclude themselves. Others must submit a valid claim form to receive the offer.
No proof of purchase is required. However, only those who made a qualifying purchase between Dec. 8, 2019, and May 29, 2025, and didn’t receive a refund or credit, are eligible.
The voucher is part of Kipling’s agreement to resolve the lawsuit and improve pricing transparency at its outlet stores.
