- 2021-2022 CX-30 (2.5T) with VINS starting from 3MVDM******233598 – 437812 (produced from December 7, 2020 to June 30, 2022)
- 2021 Mazda6 (2.5T) with VINS from JM1GL******602506 – 618909 (produced from October 6, 2020 to September 14, 2021)
- 2021 CX-5 (US/Canada spec 2.5T with 10.25" center display) with VINS from JM3KF******320280 – 472324 (produced from October 6, 2020 to September 13, 2021)

A class action lawsuit filed against Mazda has been settled for an undisclosed amount. The lawsuit alleged that certain Mazda vehicles from model years 2021-2022 had defective valve stem seals, causing excessive oil consumption. These vehicles included:
- Mazda CX-30 (2021-2022)
- Mazda CX-5 (2021)
- Mazda CX-9 (2021)
- Mazda3 (2021-2022) equipped with 2.5L turbocharged engines
- Mazda6 (2021) equipped with 2.5L turbocharged engines
The lawsuit claimed that the valve stem seals, located on the exhaust side of the engine, were faulty. This allegedly caused oil to leak into the combustion chamber and burn off at an excessive rate. Due to this defect, owners of these vehicles may have experienced:
- A "LOW ENGINE OIL LEVEL" warning message appearing on the instrument cluster before the recommended oil change interval of 7,500 miles or one year.
- The need for frequent oil refills due to low oil levels.
Mazda denies any wrongdoing but agreed to the settlement to avoid the costs of litigation. The settlement aims to compensate owners and lessees who experienced these issues with their vehicles.
Under the terms of the Mazda valve stem seal defect class action settlement, eligible consumers can receive:
- Free Valve Stem Seal Repair: Mazda will replace the defective valve stem seals on your vehicle at no cost.
- Extended Warranty: The settlement extends the powertrain limited warranty on your vehicle from 60 months or 60,000 miles to 84 months or 84,000 miles, whichever comes first.
- Reimbursement for Oil Changes: If you had to get oil changes or refills more frequently than the recommended interval due to the oil consumption issue, you may be eligible for reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket expenses.
- Loaner Vehicle: Loaner vehicles may be available during the repair process (subject to dealer availability).
