In 2019, American Medical Collection Agency (AMCA), a third-party debt collector serving various healthcare providers, reported that hackers had accessed its systems and stolen sensitive patient information. A class action lawsuit alleged that Sonic Healthcare, Aurora Diagnostics, Clinical Pathology Laboratories, and Austin Pathology Associates failed to take reasonable measures to protect patient data, leaving affected individuals at risk of fraud and identity theft. Without admitting any wrongdoing, the defendants agreed to a $6,438,578.20 settlement to resolve these alleged claims.
Eligible class members may receive one of the following benefits:
• Up to $5,000 in reimbursement for documented out-of-pocket losses related to the data breach, which may include unreimbursed expenses, professional service costs, miscellaneous expenses, credit monitoring costs, and up to 10 hours of lost time valued at an estimated $25 per hour — documentation is required
• An estimated $50 alternative cash payment for class members who did not experience documented out-of-pocket losses
• Two years of free medical and healthcare information monitoring through CyEx Medical Shield Pro, available to all class members
Actual payment amounts may vary depending on the number of valid claims submitted. This is for informational purposes only and does not guarantee any specific payout.
