A class action lawsuit alleging anticompetitive behavior in the EpiPen market has been settled. Plaintiffs, representing direct purchasers of EpiPen and generic epinephrine autoinjectors, accused Pfizer and other manufacturers of conspiring to artificially inflate drug prices.
The lawsuit claimed that the defendants engaged in a scheme to restrict competition, reduce supply, and increase prices for EpiPens, a life-saving medication used to treat severe allergic reactions. As a result, direct purchasers paid inflated prices for these essential products.
Pfizer, one of the defendants, has agreed to pay $50 million to settle the claims against it. The company denies any wrongdoing but has chosen to settle the case to avoid the costs and uncertainties of continued litigation.
Eligible direct purchasers will receive a proportional share of the $50 million settlement fund based on their documented EpiPen purchases during the class period. Payment amounts will vary depending on the total number of claims and the specific purchases made.
Note: This settlement is separate from other EpiPen-related settlements involving different parties and claims.
