Antigua Club, a residential property lessor in Florida, has agreed to pay $190,000 to settle a class action lawsuit alleging violations of the Florida Residential Landlord and Tenant Act (FRLTA). The lawsuit claimed Antigua Club improperly charged termination fees to tenants at The Grand Reserve at Lee Vista apartment complex in Orlando.
While Antigua Club denies any wrongdoing, they agreed to the settlement to resolve the lawsuit. Here's what eligible class members can expect:
- Automatic Forgiveness of Termination Fees: A total of $119,517 in termination fees currently owed by former tenants will be forgiven by Antigua Club.
- Statutory and Refund Payments: The remaining settlement amount will be distributed as statutory damage payments and refund payments to class members. The exact amount each member receives will vary depending on the specifics of their lease termination.
No claim form is required to receive a settlement benefit. Class members who do not exclude themselves from the settlement will automatically receive a payment.
